The final award at last weeks Annual Convention and the most prestigious of the whole day was the Hall of Fame award. The list of winners is essentially a list of those who have made outstanding contributions to Irish Pitch and Putt. As Tom Egan sat in the expectant crowd, he too wondered who would be the recipient of the 2012 prize. To his great surprise, much more than those gathered in the Athlone Springs Hotel, Tom himself was the more than worthy addition to that great list.

The reasons for his deserved accolade are outlined in the citation below:

"For being a gently effective County Board Chairman, renowned for his thoughtful observations at meetings,

For playing at all times in an unassuming manner, belying a formidable if courteous fellow competitor,

For acting as a genial and successful partner in Mixed Foursomes and scramble events,

For being a quietly spoken but powerful advocate for Pitch and Putt on the airwaves of local radio,

For ably conducting delicate negotiations with the neighbouring community to add nine holes to his local course,

For loyally serving his club in a variety of other capacities, not least as an industrious greenkeeper,

The PPUI Hall of Fame award goes to Tom Egan (Ferbane). "
