Squad:
Captain: Ian Leech: (H/Cap): -4
Ian is a previous Cork Junior Strokeplay Champion and also the first ever Nett cup to be played in Ireland in Douglas in 2008. Ian came 3rd in the Inter All Ireland Strokeplay in 2012. Has also won a few Intermediate scratch cups over the last 3 years.
Currently the PRO of St. Anne’s, has been invaluable to me these past few years for providing relevant, concise information on all Munster players. A very knowledgeable Pitch and Putt fanatic – will be looking to play Hayden in the singles!
Brian Barry: -8:
Brian won the St. Anne’s Junior Scratch cup this year and also retained the Cork Junior Charity Scratch cup in Ballinlough after also winning it in 2012.
Eric O’Shea: -10:
Eric has had a fine year in 2013, as not only did he recently win the St. Anne’s Presidents prize but he earlier in the year also won the St. Stephen’s Junior Scratch Cup.
Robert O’Connor -7:
The sole ciotóg in the St Anne’s squad! Robbie put in a great performance to win the Munster Junior Strokeplay title in Rocklodge in 2012. A formidable player.
Keith Lynch: -10:
Keith has developed into a very good player over the last few years. Keith won the St. Anne’s Chairman’s Prize earlier this year which he also won in 2012.
Kevin Courtney: -8:
Kevin returned to the game last year after an absence of a couple of years. Kevin as a junior player played in the St. Anne’s B Senior team in the Cork leagues this year. Kevin frightened a few senior players with his performances against them.
Martin O’Sullivan: -8:
Martin won the first ever Junior Scratch cup held in Pfizers this year. Also this season Martin emerged victorious in the St. Anne’s Captain’s Prize. Martin is a fast improving player and is following in the footsteps of his dad Martin who was a top player in his day.
Path to the Semi-finals:
Winner of group C (by match difference scoring)
Results:
Vs Rocklodge: 8-1 (W) @ Collins
Vs Tralee: 6-3 (W) @ Majestic
Vs Deerpark: 4-5 (L) @ Rocklodge
Vs Riverdale: 9-0 (W) @ Parteen
Vs Parteen 6-3 (W) @ Tipp Hills
Quarter-Final:
Vs Lakeside 5-4 (W) @ Bruff:
St. Anne’s had a hard fought 5-4 win Lakeside. Leading 2-1 after the Doubles with wins for the combinations of Robbie O’Connor/Martin O’Sullivan and Keith Lynch/Eric O’Shea. Lakeside making a strong comeback by winning 3 of the first 4 the singles games with Martin O’Sullivan adding to St. Anne’s total with his singles win. This left the game 4-3 in Lakeside’s favour with two singles games left. Robbie O’Connor had a great win on the third tie hole for St. Anne’s, before up stepped Brian Barry to win the vital last point by winning his match on the 17th hole after coming from behind with 6 holes to play.
Prospects:
Like Lucan, they would have preferred someone else surely, but at this stage of the competition, all the teams are strong. Might have some advantage having won their q/f in Bruff. Their near-collapse in the singles could be a cause for concern, as this will be where Lucan are strong individually. Slight under-dogs.
