The PPUI would like to congratulate Mervyn Cooney on his reception of a Civic Award from Enniscorthy Town Council earlier this week.

Mervyn was presented the honour as a result of outstanding endeavour locally, nationally and internationally. The former PPUI President served many years on the National Executive prior to taking up the top role in 1998. Following his Presidency, Mervyn went on become a leading light of International Pitch and Putt, and along with his good friend John Manning, oversaw massive development in the game overseas.

At a local level Mervyn has been a stalwart of the St. Patrick's club in Enniscorthy for decades, selflessly giving much of his time to the club cause as well as to the C/K/W regional board. Mervyn is back at the coalface once again, performing the duty of club secretary with aplomb for the past few years. A personal highlight for Mervyn and the locality was been the staging of the Inter County Championships last year. Mervyn put a trojan effort in to ensure the best possible Championship and was rewarded, more than he could have imagined, with a Wexford win on home soil.

Of course Mervyn is known in Enniscorthy for his bakery as much as his Pitch and Putt exploits! For the vital contribution to the town in many aspects of his life, including Pitch and Putt, he is a most deserving recipient of the award.

Mervyn is pictured above with another former PPUI President, Myles McMorrow, receiving his PPUI Hall of Fame award at the 2012 Annual Convention.
