Ireland enjoyed an excellent weekend at the 2026 European Strokeplay Championship at Golf La Rochelle Sud in France, with two European titles and two runner-up finishes among the highlights.
David “Dáithí” Sexton was crowned European Strokeplay Champion following a dramatic conclusion to the Open Championship. Sexton entered a play-off with France's Alexandre Decorde after the pair finished level following 54 holes, with the Irishman prevailing in extra holes to secure the European title.
There was further success for Ireland in the Over-55s Championship, where Frank Dineen claimed the European title with a 13-under-par aggregate of 149. John Walsh finished two shots behind to complete an excellent Irish 1–2.
In the Ladies European Championship, Eleanor Walsh produced another strong Irish performance to finish runner-up to France's Vanessa Renoult.
