Despite Ireland bringing in ther first two points of the Challenge, Catalonia lead by 3.5 to 2.5 after the morning Foursomes. 

The combinations of Conor McCarthy and Shane Redmond (3&2) along with team captain Maree O'Toole and Martha O'Brien (1up) were the winning Irish pairs. 

Weeshie Murphy and John Carton halved their encounter but there were defeats for Martin Fawl and Clare Daly (2 down), Kevin McCarthy and Ian Dillon (2&1) and Christy Broe and Frank Ryan (1 down) in their matches. 

The afternoon Fourball session begins @ 2.30pm Irish time.
