Green Keeping Advice for the Coming Months

Course Maintenance: July and August

The following is advice from the Technical Committee on course maintenance over the next two months for Pitch and Putt Clubs:

July

If you chose the ‘Lebanon’ fertiliser in April, it’s time to apply ‘Lebanon 8/4/24’ @ 23g per m2. This must be watered in. Leave the grass boxes off the mover for the first three cuts after fertilising.

During dry conditions change to ‘Mascot Microflow 18/3/6’ @ 400ml per 100m2.

If you chose the ‘Sustane Organic’ fertiliser in April its time to apply ‘Sustane 10/2/10’ @ @ 30g per m2. This does not need to be watered in.

Watch out for fusarium and treat with Pencozeb WDG – 1kg per 25 litres of water. Two mixes per 18 holes.

August

If you chose the ‘Mascot’ fertiliser in April, it’s time to apply ‘Mascot 6/0/12’ @ 30g per m2. This must be watered in. Leave the grass boxes off the mover for the first three cuts after fertilising.

During dry conditions change to ‘Mascot Microflow 18/3/6’ @ 400ml per 100m2. This is a liquid fertiliser, which will reduce the risk of scorch during hot weather.

From this month on be on the lookout for fusarium. To successfully manage this disease, it must be treated at the first sign of an outbreak. Remove dew daily from the greens and only apply low nitrogen, quick release fertiliser at this time of the year.
